Buying and selling safely on Ascend

Ascend connects buyers and sellers. It does not process payments, hold funds, inspect items, or guarantee a transaction.

The short version

  • Keep every conversation on Ascend so the message history is available if you submit a report.
  • Don't click links a seller or buyer sends inside chat. Anything they need to share, they can paste right there in the message.
  • Never share your card details, OTP codes, bank logins, or passwords. Ascend will never ask for those, and a real buyer doesn't need them either.
  • When you meet in person, pick a public spot in daylight and bring a friend if you can.

Common scam patterns to watch for

“Pay through this other site”

A buyer or seller suddenly insists you continue the deal on WhatsApp, Telegram, an email link, or a site you've never heard of. Moving off Ascend removes the conversation from the context available to moderators. Stay on Ascend, and stop if the other person keeps pushing.

“Just send me your card number / OTP”

No legitimate buyer needs your card details, CVV, OTP, bank login, or one-time-passcode to send you money. If anyone asks, stop the conversation and report the listing.

“I’ll overpay, you refund the difference”

The classic overpayment scam. They'll send a fake receipt screenshot, or initiate a payment they later reverse, leaving you out of pocket once you refund. If a payment hasn't actually cleared in your account, no money has moved.

“Ship before I pay” (or vice versa)

Ascend does not hold marketplace payments. Use a payment method whose terms and protections you understand. Do not ship an item based only on a screenshot or pending-payment notice.

Meeting in person

Pick a busy, public spot

Coffee shops, mall entrances, gaming-cafe lobbies. Bonus points for somewhere with security cameras.

Daytime, not late at night

You can always reschedule. A serious buyer should understand.

Bring someone with you

A flatmate or teammate is fine. Two people deters most trouble.

Test the gear before paying

Plug it in, boot it up, run a quick benchmark. Sellers should expect this.

If something feels off

Trust your gut. You don't owe anyone a sale or a purchase. Use the Report listing option on any listing that feels wrong. This creates a moderation case and alerts the team. Include the specific behavior and any useful context. Ascend cannot recover payments, so contact your payment provider and local authorities promptly if money or property is lost.
